Tagore amd Education
This research paper evolved from my wanting to learn about the recent changes at Santiniketan and Visva Bharati, if the school that Tagore founded years ago still maintained the philosophy of his teachings, after his death. Email interviews I've had with alumini of Visva Bharati, those who attended the school after Tagore died, suggest both yes and no. I hope to think yes. Also in this paper is an introduction to Tagore and his philosphy on education, including why he had the desire to teach . . . as a child, he grew up in a world where he wanted to learn and was not allowed to in the way he wished to do so.

A Very Brief Biography which focuses on Ray's connection to Tagore via Santiniketan and his film career.
Film Review via Literary Critique This is a paper I wrote that focuses on Ray's film Teen Kanya (American version entitled Two Daughters), which is based on two of Tagore's short stories, "The Postmaster" and "The Conclusion." I narrowed my thesis, concentrating on the oppression of women in Tagore's stories, and how Ray portrayed this in his film. The film is excellent, if you are interested in viewing it. It is one of the few subtitled movies that I've enjoyed watching (all that reading on screen can get tiresome!). Tagore's stories are excellent also. Although Tagore is best known as a poet, I've always loved his short stories the most, perhaps because I'm not well versed in the Bengali language, and to truly appreciate his poems, you have to be.
